Public Safety
The safety and security of Pennsylvania’s citizens is a great responsibility. From preparing for floods to patrolling the highways, the commonwealth plays a key role in protecting the public.
The state’s homeland security office and emergency management agency work to prepare for, prevent and respond to natural disasters and terrorists threats.
Nearly one third of Pennsylvania’s population is protected by the State Police. The rest are served by local and regional police forces. The Attorney General is the top law enforcement official in the state.
Agencies such as the Department of Corrections, Bureau of Probation and Parole and the Commission on Crime and Delinquency provide a wide variety of services for crime victims, inmates and their families.
