Elk State Forest offers many opportunities for sightseeing, scenic drives, wildlife watching, and panoramic views from several vistas.

Elk State Forest includes a large portion of the Elk Scenic Drive, a 127-mile loop through portions of five counties that is a drive-to-believe-it kind of experience. Known for unparalleled wildlife viewing, you can start from the west end (Rt. 144) or east end at Lock Haven (Rt. 120) via easy access points off I-80.

The Elk Scenic Drive map and brochure (PDF) has more information about the area.

Depending on the season, a scenic drive along a state forest road could reveal not only the colors of fall foliage, but also an awe-inspiring view of a fresh snowfall, spring blossoms of the juneberry and dogwoods, followed by mountain laurel and rhododendron flowers, and a summer’s view of young wildlife. An alert visitor may view elk.

A popular elk viewing destination in the state forest is the state of the art Elk Country Visitor Center.
