The village of Gouldsboro is named for Jay Gould, one of the 10 richest Americans of all time. The area around the park is very popular for hunters and naturalists. The nearby community of Tobyhanna’s name comes from an American Indian word for “a stream whose banks are fringed with alder.”

Big Pocono State Park

The 1,306-acre Big Pocono State Park is in Monroe County in northeastern Pennsylvania. The park consists of rugged terrain on the summit and slopes of Camelback Mountain and features scenic views of three states.

Popular recreational activities include hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, picnicking, hunting, downhill skiing, and wildlife watching.

Lackawanna State Park

The 1,445-acre Lackawanna State Park is in northeastern Pennsylvania, ten miles north of Scranton. The park offers a great deal of outdoor recreation opportunities, including 18 miles of hiking trails and 15 miles of multi-use trails for mountain biking and horseback riding.

Promised Land State Park

The nearly 3,000-acre Promised Land State Park is on the Pocono Plateau, 1,800 feet above sea level. Popular recreational activities include fishing and boating in two lakes, camping in rustic cabins, hiking trails, orienteering, horseback riding, biking, mountain biking, and swimming.

Tobyhanna State Park

The 5,440-acre Tobyhanna State Park includes the 170-acre Tobyhanna Lake. Popular activities on the lake include kayaking, canoeing, fishing, and swimming. The park also offers camping, organized group tenting, hunting, hiking, and mountain biking.
