Beltzville State Park
The 3,002-acre Beltzville State Park features the 949-acre Beltzville Lake, which is a rest stop for migrating waterfowl and is a destination for boaters and anglers. The sand beach and picnic pavilions are very popular.
Other recreational activities include hiking, mountain biking, swimming, and hunting.
Hickory Run State Park
The 15,990-acre Hickory Run State Park lies in the western foothills of the Pocono Mountains.
The park contains 44 miles of hiking trails and a large picnic area with picnic tables, restrooms, playground equipment, drinking water, and trash containers located near Sand Spring Lake, which has a swimming beach, and offers opportunities for disc golf and orienteering.
Lehigh Gorge State Park
The 6,107-acre Lehigh Gorge State Park is characterized by a deep, steep-walled gorge carved by a river, thick vegetation, rock outcroppings, and waterfalls.
In Luzerne and Carbon counties in eastern Pennsylvania, the park follows the Lehigh River from the outlet of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Francis E. Walter Dam at the northern end, to the town of Jim Thorpe at the southern end of the park.
Popular recreational activities include hiking, biking, whitewater boating, fishing, hunting, and wildlife watching.
Pinchot State Forest
The 44,743-acre Pinchot State Forest is named in recognition of Gifford Pinchot’s monumental contributions to forestry and his legacy of forest land conservation. Pinchot turned a childhood interest in nature into a distinguished career protecting forests and a founding role in America’s emerging conservation movement.
The forest offers many recreational opportunities including hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, picnicking, kayaking, fishing, hunting, camping, and sightseeing.
Weiser State Forest
The nearly 30,000-acre Weiser State Forest is located in the ridge and valley region of eastern Pennsylvania. The forest offers many outdoor opportunities for hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, picnicking, boating, kayaking, fishing, hunting, camping, and even hang gliding.
Weiser State Forest contains approximately 114 of the 229 miles that the Appalachian Trail covers in Pennsylvania, four miles of which are located on state forest land.
Other Nearby Outdoor Spaces and Natural Places
The rail-trail through Lehigh Gorge State Park extends north out of the park and connects to a small parking area at the Middleburg Road crossing and at a large trailhead on PA-437 north of the park. Starting from the Black Diamond Trailhead and heading south, it is 8-miles (downhill at a gentle grade) to White Haven.
State Game Lands 119 and 187 are adjacent to the park and offer additional recreational opportunities.
