Trail Definitions
Difficulty Ratings
Easiest -- For beginner trail users. Grade is gentle with few obstacles.
More Difficult -- For the majority of trail users. Grade is steeper and trails narrower with embedded rocks or roots on the trail surface.
Most Difficult -- For trail users with advanced skills. Grade is steep and provides a definite physical challenge. Routes may not be well marked. Elevation gain or loss is severe.
Trail Route Type
Loop -- Start and end at the same location and follow a single trail to form a loop.
Out-and-back -- Start and end at a trailhead and follow a single trail to an endpoint or specific point of interest, then return along the same route.
Point-to-point -- Trails are generally longer in distance and parks may often contain only a portion of the trail within their boundary. Hiker starts and ends in different locations, often requiring a shuttle.
Connector -- Begin and end in connection with another trail or trails but do not terminate at a trailhead.
High Rocks Trail
Recreations permitted: hiking, mountain biking, rock climbing
Trailhead amenities: non-flush restrooms
Most of High Rocks Trail travels through Tohickon Valley Park (Bucks County Park). Two small sections of trail are within Ralph Stover State Park near High Rocks Vista. Both sections can be accessed from the parking lot off Tory Road.
Blue Section
0.15 mile in the park, 1.6 miles total | Easiest hiking | Out-and-back trail | Blue blazes
This relatively easy, 1.6-mile trail can be used for hiking and mountain biking in the park and Tohickon Valley Park. Visitors can enjoy a relaxing walk with a pit stop at the 200-foot cliffs that overlook the horseshoe bend of the Tohickon Creek.
Yellow Section
0.15 mile in the park, 1.9 miles total | More difficult hiking | Out-and-back trail | Yellow blazes
This more challenging trail runs closer to the creek and provides rock climbing opportunities. This 1.9-mile trail connects with the Orange Trail in Tohickon Valley Park, which offers rock climbing and a scenic view of the horseshoe bend of the Tohickon Creek.
Stover Trail
0.1 mile | Easiest hiking | Loop trail | Yellow blazes
Recreations permitted: hiking, mountain biking
Trailhead amenities: non-flush restrooms, picnic tables
A short easy walk within Ralph Stover State Park. This trail loops within the park, offering a scenic view of the Tohickon Creek and opportunities for wildlife watching.
