Controlling the Ragweed Plant
The ragweed plant can be controlled using various techniques:
Biological - Because ragweed grows best on disturbed soils, the best way to prevent its spread is to keep idle land covered with grasses or other harmless plants.
Mechanical - For small areas of infestation, pulling the plant or cutting the plant low, near the roots, is recommended (see recognizing the ragweed plant). This should be done prior to August 1st to prevent pollination and seed formation, and the next generation of plants.
Chemical - For larger areas, there are a variety of herbicides that can do the job more efficiently than by mechanical means. These products can be found in your nearest lawn and garden center. Follow all manufacturer instructions and safety procedures.
