Did you know you can improve your business' environmental footprint by reducing your energy consumption and carbon emissions through changes in your businesses transportation – whether through fleet management, alternative fueled vehicles or promoting employee incentives that reduce vehicle miles traveled? How you transport your materials, goods, services, and staff all have an environmental impact - the transportation sector is consistently a top contributor of greenhouse gas emissions (GHGs) in PA

Need a financial boost to switch to a cleaner transportation fuel? The Department offers incentives through our Alternative Fuels Incentive Grant Program: Alternative Fuel Vehicle Projects. This program promotes and builds markets for advanced, renewable and alternative energy transportation technologies. The Alternative Fuels Technical Assistance Program provides technical assistance to eligible organizations for developing technically viable and economically sustainable alternative fueling strategies.

For more information: You can explore more information on alternative fuel options for your fleet - or for your contractors who drive for you – on our Alternative Fuels page.

Own and operate your own fleet? There are a number of ways to improve your fleet's fuel economy and safety, take a look at our Fleet Management page.

Employees who commute? Vehicle transportation to and from work is essential for your employees, however, it impacts the environment during their commute, and the impacts of GHG emissions make many existing diseases and conditions worse, and help introduce new pests and pathogens into new regions or communities. In addition to GHGs, using fossil fuels for transportation can also emit air pollutants like sulfur dioxide, carbon monoxide, fine particulates, and precursors to ozone, all of which have negative health and environmental impacts. Employers can help by promoting options such as bike riding, public transportation, carpooling, and encouraging staff to drive fuel-efficient and/or alternative fuel vehicles and teaching them energy-efficient driving. For more information, look at our Employee Incentives page.
