- There are several calculators offered by numerous CNG equipment manufacturers and consultants that are designed to help fleet operators perform an initial assessment of the financial payback of conversion to CNG. The US Department of Energy (DOE) offers an alternative fuel calculator that enables a quick comparison of individual vehicle performance and payback http://www.afdc.energy.gov/afdc/calc/. DOE also publishes a guide for assessing the business case for CNG conversion of municipal fleets http://www.afdc.energy.gov/afdc/pdfs/47919.pdf as well as an Excel-based spreadsheet calculation tool called the Vehicle and Infrastructure cash-Flow Evaluation (VICE) model for use by fleet managers. http://www.afdc.energy.gov/afdc/docs/vice_model_w_intro.xlsx
