If you received this letter, one or more aboveground storage tanks at your facility is soon due for inspection. The required inspection type is listed in the table on your letter along with the tank capacity and the date by which the inspection is due.
If you have not already contacted a certified inspection company, you can search for one here. You should contract a DEP-certified aboveground storage tank inspector holding "IAM" or "IAF" (“IAM” for shop-built ASTs, “IAF” for field-built ASTs) certification to complete the inspection(s). Once you schedule the inspection(s), or if the inspection(s) is already scheduled, please notify DEP, as requested in your letter or by calling 1-800-42-TANKS.
If you received a Notice of Violation regarding past due aboveground storage tank (AST) inspection(s), one or more ASTs at your facility is overdue for inspection. You are in violation of the inspection requirements for regulated ASTs, and you should act immediately.
The required inspection type is listed in the table on your letter along with the tank capacity and the Inspection due date.
To correct this issue, you should contract a DEP-certified aboveground storage tank inspector holding "IAM" or "IAF" (“IAM” for shop-built ASTs, “IAF” for field-built ASTs) certification to complete the inspection(s). DEP's list of certified inspection companies can be found here.
When you have hired a certified inspector, notify DEP of the scheduled aboveground storage tank inspection, as requested in the Notice of Violation, or contact DEP at 1-800-42-TANKS.
Continued failure to meet the inspection requirements could result in enforcements including, but not limited to financial penalties.
If you received a Temporary Out-of-Service (TOS) Deadline Letter, one or more aboveground storage tanks (ASTs) at your facility is approaching its time limit for TOS status. The expiration date of TOS status for the AST(s) is listed in the table on your letter along with the tank ID # and tank capacity.
ASTs may remain in TOS status for up to 5 years. After that, the facility must do one of the following:
1. Permanently close the AST(s).
AST closure must be completed by a DEP-certified tank handler holding "AMR" or "AFR" certification (“AMR” for shop-built ASTs, “AFR” for field-built ASTs).

2. Complete inspections, make repairs, and return the AST(s) to service.
Before a TOS AST can be returned to service any delayed or overdue inspections must be completed; all deficiencies and/or violations must be corrected; and a "StorageTanks Registration Amendment Form" must be submitted to DEP to request approval to return the AST to "Currently-in-use" status
Inspections and modifications must be performed by individuals holding appropriate DEP certifications.

3. Request an extension of the TOS status for the AST(s)
