Water Conservation
Water Conservation plays a key role in providing safe, healthy drinking water to the public and is essential to ensuring access to clean, abundant water resources to future generations. Water, especially clean freshwater, is a limited resource, one that must be shared while competition for its uses increases as the world population grows, economic development expands and pollution impacts availability.
The Department of Environmental Protection recognizes water conservation as a principal component in the protection and management of Pennsylvania’s natural resources. The department also recognizes that it is vital to policy and decision making and further seeks to discover, encourage and advance new technologies that serve to conserve water, explore reuse alternatives and better manage this valuable resource.
The Water Conservation Center serves to provide a centralized warehouse of conservation information, ideas and techniques and to offer a web-based repository for exploring emerging technologies, products that reduce water consumption and improve water quality.
DEP is a promotional partner in the WaterSense program, a public-private partnership sponsored by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency whose mission is to protect our nation’s water supply by promoting and enhancing the market for water-efficient products and services.
Using water efficiently will conserve supplies for future generations.
Protecting and preserving the nation’s water supply is critical to our economic future and human health.
