***This information was updated on 8/17/2021 to indicate a change in the projected start date for construction. Due to weather conditions, construction is now scheduled to begin during the week of 8/23-8/27 (originally 8/16-8/20). Visitors to Meadow Grounds Lake should expect restricted access to Meadow Grounds Road for 3-4 days during that period.
HARRISBURG, Pa. (August 13) – The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission (PFBC) and Pennsylvania Game Commission announced today that public access to Meadow Grounds Lake, located within State Game Lands (SGL) 53 in Ayr Township, Fulton County, will be temporarily impacted by a construction project.
During the week of August 23, contractors will begin a $200,000 project to improve 3.3 miles of public access roads within SGL 53, including Meadow Grounds Road, which is the sole vehicular access point for the dam and boat launch at Meadow Grounds Lake. During this time, heavy digging will occur so that culvert pipes may be installed beneath the road to improve drainage. For a period of 3-4 days, vehicles will not be permitted to access Meadow Grounds Road at the SGL boundary to access the lake area and surrounding Game Lands. Following this initial work, the road will be reopened to public access; however, heavy construction equipment will continue to use the road and delays should be expected.
A second closure of Meadow Grounds Road will occur sometime in September and is expected to last 3-4 days. During this second closure period, motorized vehicular travel will not be permitted on Meadow Grounds Road from the "Y" intersection east of the lake down to the boat launch and dam area.
The PFBC and Game Commission thank the public for their patience and understanding as these improvements are completed.
