Job Seekers Invited to Explore Rewarding Careers and Benefits of Public Service at the Commonwealth Job Fair

The Shapiro Administration is opening the doors of opportunity to Pennsylvanians who want careers in state government by emphasizing skills and experience in hiring, creating new pathways to employment, and making the Commonwealth the best place to work in Pennsylvania.

Harrisburg, PA – Building on Governor Josh Shapiro’s commitment to empowering Pennsylvanians to chart their own course and opening new doors to opportunity, job seekers are invited to the Commonwealth Job Fair to explore rewarding careers and learn about the benefits and professional development opportunities that the Commonwealth offers. During last year’s job fair, the Governor signed the Hire, Improve, Recruit, and Empower (HIRE) Executive Order to prioritize initiatives that will help build a robust workforce and make Pennsylvania a standout employer in a competitive labor market.

“The Commonwealth is one of the top employers in the state – and we’re always looking for new employees who want to serve Pennsylvania,” said Secretary of Administration Neil Weaver. “Our employees take pride in their work and the ability to make a positive difference in the lives of their fellow Pennsylvanians. The Commonwealth Job Fair is the only recruitment event where service-minded job seekers can meet with dozens of state agencies under one roof to learn about the wide range of careers and benefits that we offer.”

Representatives from over 35 state agencies will be on hand to talk to job seekers about hundreds of job openings across the state, how to apply, career pathways, and employee benefits. Interested job seekers are encouraged to pre-register for easy entrance; walk-ins are also welcome. Visitors should park in the North Lot, which includes an accessible entrance and parking spots.

In addition to offering rewarding work and opportunities for career growth, the Commonwealth also provides a comprehensive benefits package that emphasizes physical and mental health, work-life balance, and personal well-being, including:

  • Affordable medical, dental, vision, and prescription plans through the Pennsylvania Employees Benefit Trust Fund (PEBTF) to ensure employees and their families are covered from day one. Certain provisions of these benefits were recently enhanced to keep up with the private sector and reduce costs and waiting periods for new hires and dependents to enroll in coverage.
  • Paid leave that includes holidays, vacation, and sick leave to allow employees time to recuperate from illnesses, spend time with loved ones, and relax. Last year, the Shapiro Administration increased support for Commonwealth employees and their families by increasing paid parental leave benefits from six weeks to eight weeks.
  • Flexible retirement plans to help plan for the future, as well as a voluntary deferred compensation plan to boost retirement savings.
  • Wellness benefits, such as confidential counseling and financial and legal support at no cost through the State Employee Assistance Program (SEAP) for employees and their families. New work/life benefits were added last year to help balance the demands of work and family, and the Shapiro Administration increased the number of no cost counseling sessions for mental health, substance misuse, and family issues covered by SEAP.
  • Employee discounts and optional benefits such as insurance for home, auto, life, pet, chronic illness, and disability and tax-advantaged accounts to pay for health care and dependent care expenses.
  • Education assistance for employees and their dependents, including tuition discounts and scholarships at a growing number of colleges and universities, reduced interest rates on student loans, as well as student loan forgiveness under the federal Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) Program.
  • Additional support for military personnel and veterans, including up to 15 days of paid military leave annually, up to five years of unpaid leave for service, a monthly stipend while on unpaid leave for active duty, and options to maintain health insurance coverage and purchase service time toward retirement while on long-term leave. Veteran job seekers are also entitled to hiring preference when applying for jobs with the Commonwealth.

The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania is always hiring! Job seekers can go to employment.pa.gov to browse hundreds of vacancies, apply for openings, and be notified when new jobs are available. Pennsylvanians can also explore internships, fellowships, and apprenticeships through the Commonwealth at the Launch Your Career page.
