Slow-Moving Superload Set to Move Through Area Including Butler, Clarion, Indiana, and Jefferson Counties

Indiana, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is advising motorists that on Thursday, April 17, a superload being transported from Allegheny County, PA to Columbiana, OH is expected travel through portions of Allegheny, Butler, Clarion, Indiana, Jefferson, Mercer and Westmoreland counties. 

The superload is carrying a 27’8” wide steel cone that is 136 feet long, nearly 28 feet wide, and weighs 153 tons. The load will begin travelling in Allegheny County on Routes 2037/Tri-Boro Expressway,130, 48, and 2048 North/William Penn Highway to Indiana County on Routes 22, 286, 129/Alpine Village Drive, 22 and 119 into Jefferson County continuing on Routes 436 and 36 to I-80 West in Brookville.  The superload will then travel I-80 to the Ohio line.

The superload will move as a rolling slowdown using two traffic lanes which will result in traffic stoppages and travel delays. Southern Pines Trucking, Inc. of Aliquippa, PA will transport the load.

Drivers should remain alert for this slow-moving, two-lane operation, which may travel approximately 25-30 miles per hour, or slower as needed, and use alternate routes when possible.
