Jason Zang, P.E. Named District Executive for PennDOT’s Pittsburgh-Region Engineering District

Pittsburgh, PA – Jason Zang, P.E. has been appointed as the District Executive for the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation's (PennDOT) Engineering District 11, which covers a three-county Pittsburgh region.

"Jason's extensive experience in maintenance and engineering roles will serve the agency and public well," said PennDOT Secretary Mike Carroll.  "Our partners and customers in the region will continue benefitting from Jason's leadership and PennDOT's work in their communities."

Zang is responsible for the planning and supervising of the state highway system in PennDOT's Engineering District 11 that covers Allegheny, Beaver, and Lawrence counties.  Within the three counties, PennDOT District 11 owns and maintains 2,549 miles of state highway, 1,794 bridges and four tunnels.

"The bridges, trails, busways, highways, and sidewalks of the Pittsburgh region have been my home all my life.  Transportation is our connection to work, family, and where we want to go and I am humbled to be a part of ensuring that our region has sustainable and reliable transportation for all modes," said Zang.  "PennDOT District 11 consists of a talented and innovative team of professionals who are passionate about transportation.  We will continue to do everything we can to deliver important projects that enhance the lives of our customers while balancing the construction impacts, provide the highest level of winter services, and modernize our transportation system as we look to the future. I can't promise there won't be potholes, or traffic cones, but I can promise that I will listen and create change that can move us into the future."  

Zang began his career with PennDOT in 1999 as a Civil Engineer Trainee. He has progressed through various positions within the Department including ten years in the District Bridge Unit, prior to progressing through the Design and Construction Units as a Senior Project Manager and the Structural Control Engineer. In 2016 he took on the role of Allegheny County Maintenance Manager for two years prior to accepting his most recent position of Assistant District Executive for Construction in 2018. Zang earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering from the University of Pittsburgh. He has held his Professional Engineer's license since 2002.
