Interstate 70 Lane Restrictions Next Week in Westmoreland County

Uniontown, PA – Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) District 12 is announcing scheduled rolling/single-lane restrictions on Interstate 70, between Exit 49 (Smithton) and exits 46A/46B (Route 51) in Rostraver Township, Westmoreland County.

Monday, April 28 and Tuesday, April 29

  • Overnight rolling restrictions, 8:00 PM to 6:00 AM
  • Eastbound
  • Prime contractor Golden Triangle and subcontractor Vantage Corp. will remove an overhead sign structure.

Monday, April 28 through Friday, May 2

  • Daytime restrictions, 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM
  • Eastbound and westbound
  • Subcontractor Geronimo Painting will begin removing the work platforms under the Matthew Smelser Memorial Bridge.

All work depends on weather and operations.

This work is part of the $120.7 million I-70 at Route 51 Interchange Project, which will reconstruct I-70 at Exit 46 to make the section similar to other reconstructed sections to the east and west. A Diverging Diamond Interchange (DDI) will replace the current substandard cloverleaf Route 51 interchange.

One mile of Route 51 will be reconstructed and widened from south of Ridge Road to north of Concord Lane/Pfile Lane, milled and paved from Concord Lane/Pfile Lane to Harper Drive. Finley Road will be relocated behind the GetGo to form a four-way intersection at Route 981, and a left-turn lane will be added from Route 51 to Ridge Road. The project is anticipated to be completed in October 2027.

Remain alert and follow the posted signs and speed limits. Safety is everyone’s responsibility.
