Montoursville, PA – Emergency repairs are set to begin next week on the damaged bridge in Little Mahanoy Township, Northumberland County. The truss bridge, which carries Route 225 over Mahanoy Creek, was struck by a truck hauling an excavator in December 2024. Upon a bridge inspection, PennDOT Crews closed the bridge until it could be repaired.
Since the closure, PennDOT worked with industry partners to finalize a repair plan and identify material needs to complete the repairs.
On Monday, February 3, 2025, the contractor, J.D. Eckman, Inc., will begin mobilizing equipment and materials to the work site to begin the repair project. The contractor will begin removal of the damaged truss members and heat straightening of the damaged members that are not being replaced.
Traffic Impacts
- Route 225 remains closed in both directions between Route 890 in Trevorton and Route 147 near Mandata, Northumberland County. The bridge is expected to be closed into March 2025.
- Motorists are reminded to use the official signed detour of Route 147, Brush Valley Road (Route 4018) and Route 890 and not the local roads Creek Road (T405) and State Road (T838).
J.D. Eckman, Inc., is the prime contractor for this emergency bridge repair project. Work on this project includes removal of the damaged steel truss members and replacement with new steel beams, heat straightening, and miscellaneous repairs. Work is anticipated to be completed by the end of March 2025.
