Montoursville, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is providing an update on the damaged bridge on Route 225 in Little Mahanoy Township, Northumberland County.
The truss bridge, which carries Route 225 over Mahanoy Creek was struck by a truck hauling an excavator earlier this month. Upon a bridge inspection, PennDOT Crews closed the bridge until it could be repaired.
Route 225 remains closed in both directions between Dornsife Mountain Road (Route 4019) in Little Mahanoy Township and Herndon Bypass Road (Route 3006) in Jackson Township, Northumberland County.
A detour using Herndon Bypass Road, Route 147, Boyles Run Road (Route 4022) and Route 890 is in place.
PennDOT is meeting with a bridge designer, contractor and material suppliers and will provide an update with the estimated reopen date as we work through the design process.
The preliminary estimate to repair the bridge is around $1 million. The responsible party is known.
