Montoursville, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is providing an update, including current closure points and the long-term detour, on the damaged bridge on Route 225 in Little Mahanoy Township, Northumberland County.
The truss bridge, which carries Route 225 over Mahanoy Creek was struck by a truck hauling an excavator earlier in December. Upon a bridge inspection, PennDOT Crews closed the bridge until it could be repaired.
Route 225 remains closed in both directions between Route 890 in Trevorton and Route 147 near Mandata, Northumberland County. The bridge is expected to be closed into March 2025.
Motorists are reminded to use the official signed detour of Route 147, Brush Valley Road (Route 4018) and Route 890 and not the local roads Creek Road (T405) and State Road (T838).
The contractor, J.D. Eckman, is working to obtain the necessary steel for the repair, which is expected to take three to five weeks to arrive.
The preliminary estimate to repair the bridge is around $1 million. The responsible party is known.
