Resurfacing Project Continues Next Week on Route 54 in Riverside Borough and Rush Township, Northumberland County

Montoursville, PA – Motorists are advised that a resurfacing project continues next week on Route 54 in Riverside Borough and Rush Township, Northumberland County.

A temporary barrier is in place along the westbound shoulder of Route 54 between Route 4001 (Sunbury Road) in Riverside Borough and Route 2004 (Bowden Road) in Rush Township for the construction of a retaining wall. Work will now be performed each day between the hours of 8:00 PM through 5:00 AM, Sunday through Thursday. Motorists can expect single lane restrictions with flagging operations while work is being performed.

 Traffic Impacts

  • Traffic is shifted away from the barrier.
  • One lane of traffic will be maintained in each direction.
  • A 12.2-foot width restriction will be in place. 

HRI, Inc., is the prime contractor for this $2.2 million resurfacing project on Route 54 between Bowden Road and Sunbury Road. Work this year includes shoulder repairs to Route 54, construction of a retaining wall between the roadway and adjacent railroad track, guide rail upgrade, resurfacing between Bowden Road and Sunbury Road, and line painting. In 2023, the contractor completed roadway resurfacing and sidewalk improvements of Sunbury Road in Riverside Borough.

Work on this project is anticipated to be completed in the fall of 2024, weather permitting.
