    PennDOT/BPC Announce Traffic Switch on Interstate 81 in Susquehanna County

    Dunmore, PA – Motorists are advised that the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) and Bridging Pennsylvania Constructors (BPC) are announcing implementing Traffic 3B Shift on 1-81 southbound in support of the I-81 Susquehanna Bridges Project.

    The traffic shift is scheduled to occur between January 13, 2025, and January 27, 2025, and will span mile markers (MM) 228 to MM 232.7 As part of this shift both southbound lanes will be transitioned to newly constructed travel lanes and the median starting at the New York State line.

    Additionally, the Ramp B and Ramp C southbound off-ramps to and from State Route 171 will be closed and detoured for 1-2 days during the implementation of this traffic shift. Motorists are encouraged to follow signed detours and allow extra travel time.

    On Thursday, June 15, 2023, PennDOT & BPD-I hosted a virtual I-81 Susquehanna Bridge Project Public Meeting to introduce key members of the BPD-I team and provide an update about specific pre-construction and anticipated upcoming construction activities, traffic plans and scheduling.     Motorists can check conditions on major roadways by visiting www.511PA.com. 511PA, which is free and available 24 hours a day, provides traffic delay warnings, weather forecasts, traffic speed information, and access to more than 1,000 traffic cameras. 511PA is also available through a smartphone application for iPhone and Android devices, by calling 5-1-1, or by following regional X alerts.
