Route 222 at Long Lane Roundabout Project Begins April 14

Allentown, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) District 5 announced a project to improve the intersection of Route 222 and Long Lane in Maxatawny Township, Berks County will begin April 14.

The project includes the replacement of the existing Route 222 at Long Lane signalized intersection with a roundabout to improve safety and mobility. The project includes drainage improvements, road repairs, and construction of the roundabout.

Initial work will mostly be utility line relocation work that is not anticipated to impact traffic. For safety and for utility continuity purposes, multiple utility lines need to be relocated prior to the commencement of road construction work.

At some point in the future motorists can expect nighttime and weekend lane restrictions on Route 222 between Hottenstein Road and Kunkel Road/Topton Road, and on Long Lane between Delaware Drive and Topton Road. Updates will be provided when traffic patterns change.

Route 222 in this area has an average daily traffic volume of 30,454 vehicles. Long Lane in this area has an average daily traffic volume of 2,897 vehicles.

JVI Group, Inc. of York, PA is the general contractor on the $9,031,850.80 project, which is expected to be complete in September 2027.
