Philadelphia, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today that bridge joint sealing operations will begin next week on westbound I-76 (Schuylkill Expressway) under a $37.9 million project to resurface and repair nearly five miles of the interstate, the associated on-and-off ramps, and more than 20 bridges in the City of Philadelphia and Lower Merion Township, Montgomery County.
Motorists are advised of the following travel restrictions:
- Monday, March 24, through Friday, March 28, from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning, lane closures are scheduled on westbound I-76 (Schuylkill Expressway) between the Montgomery Drive and U.S. 1 South (City Avenue) interchanges.
- Monday, March 31, through Friday, April 4, from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning, the ramp from Spring Garden Street to westbound I-76 (Schuylkill Expressway) will be closed and detoured. Motorists will be directed to turn right onto 33rd Street, left onto Mantua Avenue, right onto 34th Street, and left onto Girard Avenue to access the ramp to westbound I-76 (Schuylkill Expressway).
- Monday, April 7, through Friday, April 11, from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning, the ramp from westbound I-76 (Schuylkill Expressway) to Girard Avenue (Exit 342) will be closed and detoured. Motorists will be directed to exit at 30th Street (Exit 345), left onto Arch Street, left onto 30th Street, right onto JFK Boulevard, right onto Market Street, right onto 38th Street, left onto Lancaster Avenue and right onto Belmont Avenue to access Girard Avenue.
Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work areas because significant backups and delays will occur. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.
