Philadelphia, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT), the City of Philadelphia, and SEPTA invite the public to participate in an online meeting to learn about the “Roosevelt Boulevard: Route for Change” bus lanes. This meeting will provide an opportunity to speak directly with representatives from PennDOT, the City, and SEPTA regarding how bus lanes and crossover improvements advance safety and transit performance.
The virtual public meeting will be held Wednesday, March 19, 6:30 PM, and installing bus lanes on Roosevelt Boulevard between Bustleton Avenue and Southampton Road will be discussed.
This section of Roosevelt Boulevard between Bustleton Avenue and Southampton Road is served by six SEPTA bus routes (1, 14, 20, 50, 67, and Boulevard Direct), which carry nearly 20,000 riders per day. Up to 608 weekly bus trips are on this section of Roosevelt Boulevard. Despite the importance of SEPTA service for communities in the Northeast, buses cannot stay on schedule in the current conditions. Today's number of late buses doubled when traveling through the portion of Roosevelt Boulevard where bus lanes are proposed.
The lane closest to the curb will be designated as a "bus-only" lane. Between Bustleton Avenue and Rhawn Street, these lanes will be marked with "No Stopping" signs that apply 24 hours a day, seven days a week. As a result, vehicles will no longer be allowed to park or load on Roosevelt Boulevard between Bustleton Avenue and Rhawn Street. Attend by clicking on this Microsoft Teams meeting link.
Please note that internet access or a computer or mobile device is required to view the virtual meeting. Individuals with special needs or requiring assistance are encouraged to contact PennDOT Project Manager Alexa Harper at c-alharper@pa.gov.
