PennDOT to Begin Construction on Route 82 (Doe Run Road) Bridge Rehabilitation Project in West Marlborough Township

King of Prussia, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today that construction will begin Monday, March 3, on a $1.3 million project to rehabilitate the Route 82 (Doe Run Road) bridge over Doe Run in West Marlborough Township, Chester County.

Under this project, PennDOT’s contractor will replace the superstructure on the existing 23-foot-wide, 58-foot-long bridge. Construction includes improving stormwater drainage, resurfacing the approach roadway, and installing abutment backfill, new signage, and pavement markings.

In addition, new features will include brown painted steel beams and guiderail, an epoxy overlay on the bridge deck, and darker stone to aesthetically blend with the Doe Run historic district’s surrounding area.

Built in 1932, the structure, which carries approximately 4,881 vehicles per day, was closed in November 2024 between Route 841 (North Chatham Road) and Highland Dairy Road/Wilson Road following a bridge inspection that determined significant deterioration to the steel beams and bridge deck.

Route 82 (Doe Run Road) motorists will continue to use the posted detour to Route 841 (North Chatham Road) and Route 842 (Clonmell Upland Road) until the project is completed.

Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling near the work area because backups and delays will occur. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.

Loftus Construction, Inc. of King of Prussia, PA, is the general contractor on this project, which is financed with 100 percent state funds.
