Weekend Paving Planned on SB I-81 in Cumberland County

​Work is Aug. 4-7; Traffic restrictions will be in place

Harrisburg, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today that paving is planned for the weekend of August 4-7 on southbound Interstate 81 from the Route 11/15 Interchange to about a mile north of Exit 61 (Route 944/Wertzville Road) in Cumberland County. Traffic restrictions will be in place through the weekend.

Weather permitting, work will begin at 8:00 PM Friday, August 4, and be completed by 6:00 AM Monday, August 7. Traffic on southbound I-81 will be reduced from three lanes to one lane each night from 9:00 PM to 6:00 AM. Two lanes of traffic will be open all other hours.

This work is part of a 12.85-mile resurfacing project that consists of milling, base replacement, concrete pavement patching, minor drainage, ADA ramps, paving, traffic counter site repair and other miscellaneous construction on Interstate 81 from Route 15/Enola in East Pennsboro Township, to Route 581/Lambs Gap Road in Hampden Township.

This project is expected to be completed by November 21, 2023.

New Enterprise Stone and Lime Company, Inc., of New Enterprise, PA, is the prime contractor on this $24.5 million project.
