Project to replace structure in New Bloomfield in 2025 and in Centre Township in 2026
Harrisburg, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today that a project to replace two box culverts on Route 34 in Perry County is scheduled to begin Monday, April 14. This project consists of replacing a box culvert in New Bloomfield Borough in 2025 and replacing one in Centre Township in 2026.
Weather permitting, work will begin Monday, April 14. The first structure to be replaced in the contract is on Route 34 (Carlisle Street) box culvert spanning Dutch Canal in the borough. This structure will be replaced in half widths. Traffic will be reduced to a single lane controlled by a temporary signal.
The second box culvert carrying Route 34 (Spring Road) over Little Juniata Creek in Centre Township is expected to be replaced during the 2026 construction season. This project will use a one-lane temporary access road controlled by a signal during a portion of the project, followed by a lane restriction on the structure controlled by a temporary signal. In the event of a flood event requiring a full closure of the structure, a detour will be implemented. A press release will be issued prior to the start of this work.
JVI Group, Inc., of York Springs, PA, is the contractor on this $2,911,862 project. All work is expected to be completed by November 6, 2026.
