Closure and Detour of Route 281 (Stoystown Road) in Friedens, Somerset County, for Train Rerailing Planned for Sunday, May 4

On behalf of CSX Transportation and the Somerset County Department of Emergency Services, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is informing motorists of the closure and detour of Route 281 (Stoystown Road) in Friedens, Somerset County, on Sunday, May 4, 2025.

A single-day, 3-mile detour will divert traffic from Route 281 (Stoystown Road) to Route 1003 (Listie Road) and Route 4011 (Stouffer Hill Road) to facilitate the rerailing of the CSX train involved in the March 10 collision with a truck. 

Somerset County Department of Emergency Services is urging residents to avoid the area in the interest of safety.  

As always, PennDOT stresses extra caution in all work zones. Motorists should drive slowly, eliminate all distractions, and stay alert for direction from advanced signage and flaggers
