Project Overview
County: Mercer
Municipality: City of Meadville and Vernon Township
State Route: Kelly Road (Locally Owned)
Project Type: Bicycle and Pedestrian Safety Improvement
Construction Start: July 2024
Proposed Construction End: September 2024
Last Updated: September 30, 2024
This project is focused on making bicycling and pedestrian safety improvements to Kelly Road in the City of Hermitage, Mercer County.
The project includes the portion of Kelly Road, a locally owned roadway, between the bridge over the Shenango River and the entrance to the United States Army Corps of Engineers Mahaney Recreation Area.
The existing roadway is relatively narrow, has no shoulders, and immediate roadside ditches for drainage. The project will widen and resurface the roadway, add shoulders, make drainage improvements, provide pedestrians and bicyclists with a safer route through the project corridor, and include new “Share the Road” signage and pavement markings.
Work began in July 2024 and is expected to be completed in September 2024.
Traffic Impacts
The improvements will cause traffic to be reduced to one lane during construction, with flaggers or temporary signals used throughout the project area for the duration of the project. Access for local residences and the Mahaney Recreation Area will be maintained throughout construction.
