State Museum of Pennsylvania Announces May Highlights

Harrisburg, PA – The State Museum of Pennsylvania today announced its program schedule for May 2018:

StoryTime: My Cousin Momo by Zacharia OHora, Friday, May 4, 10:00 AM
Join us in Curiosity Connection as we read and explore Zacharia OHora’s My Cousin Momo, the 2018 winner of Pennsylvania One Book, Every One Child. StoryTime is the museum’s popular reading series for children aged 3 to 5. Each reading is held in one of our galleries and is followed by a related play activity or exploration of related hands-on artifacts. StoryTime is included with general admission.

Every Thing of Interest Shown: T.M. Fowler’s Pennsylvania Bird’s-Eye Views, 1885-1905, Exhibit Closure, Sunday, May 6
During a career that spanned nearly 50 years, Thaddeus Mortimer “T.M.” Fowler produced more bird’s-eye views of American cities and towns than any other artist. Roughly half of his more than 400 views depict communities across Pennsylvania. This exhibit, closing Sunday, May 6, showcases a sampling of original Fowler lithographic prints produced between 1885 and 1905.

The Planetarium at The State Museum of Pennsylvania: The planetarium is offering two shows from May 5 through June 3:

We Are Stars (Grade 4 and up), Saturday, 11:00 AM and 1:00 PM; and Sunday, 1:00 PM
What are we made of? Where did it all come from? This show explores the secrets of our cosmic chemistry and our explosive origins, and it connects the evolution of life on Earth to the formation of the universe by following the building of hydrogen atoms to the synthesis of carbon and the molecules for life. Narrated by Andy Serkis.

Two Small Pieces of Glass (4th Grade and up), Saturday, 12:00 Noon and 2:00 PM; and Sunday, 2:00 PM
At a local star party, students learn how the telescope has helped us understand our place in space and continues to expand our knowledge of the universe. The show also explores the history of telescopes, how they work, and how the largest observatories in the world use these instruments to learn about the mysteries of the universe.

Planetarium shows are $3 per person in addition to general admission. Planetarium admission is free to members of the State Museum Affiliate and the Pennsylvania Heritage Foundation.
