State Museum of Pennsylvania hosts “Preserving Family Recipes”

Harrisburg, PA - Join author and archivist Valerie J. Frey at The State Museum of Pennsylvania from 12:00 noon to 1:00 PM Wednesday, June, 22 for an exciting lunchtime presentation where you’ll discover how to preserve your family’s heirloom food recipes.

From Uncle’s barbecue sauce to Grandma’s cobbler, recipes fill us with nostalgia and draw us closer to family.  By taking part in “Preserving Family Recipes,” visitors will learn how to preserve handwritten recipes, heirloom photos and passed-down kitchen utensils to ensure those beloved mementoes last for generations.

Frey, author of Preserving Family Recipes: How to Save and Celebrate Your Food Tradition, will engage with visitors, offering new insights on how to interpret old family recipes with a historian’s eye, exploring what that list of directions might be telling you between the lines. This program will be hosted in Village Square located on the first floor of The State Museum.

This presentation, part of The State Museum’s Learn at Lunchtime series, is included with general admission to the museum.

As part of the program, Frey will sign copies of her book, Preserving Family Recipes: How to Save and Celebrate Your Food Tradition, which will also be available for sale that day.

Holding degrees from the University of Georgia and the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, Frey has served as an archivist at the Georgia Historical Society, the Savannah Jewish Archives and the Georgia Archives.

The State Museum of Pennsylvania, adjacent to the State Capitol in Harrisburg, is one of 24 historic sites and museums administered by the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission as part of the Pennsylvania Trails of History®.

With exhibits examining the dawn of geologic time, the Native American experience, the colonial and revolutionary eras, a pivotal Civil War battleground, and the Commonwealth's vast industrial age, The State Museum demonstrates that Pennsylvania's story is America’s story.
