Thomas E. Leipold
Thomas E. Leipold, Esquire was appointed to the Commission on January 2, 2024 by the Honorable Kim Ward, President Pro Tempore of the Senate.
Mr. Leipold recently retired after 20 years in the Columbia County District Attorney’s Office from 2004 through 2023. He served eight years as First Assistant District Attorney followed by 12 years as the elected District Attorney during which he tried numerous cases ranging from homicide and other felonies to drunk driving. He also implemented or participated in several diversionary programs for non-violent offenders including the Columbia-Montour Treatment Court Program.
Prior to becoming District Attorney, Mr. Leipold was engaged in private law practice in Bloomsburg from 1985 involving civil litigation and various commercial and real estate matters. He also maintained an extensive municipal and local agency law practice representing multiple county and municipal governments, offices and agencies in Columbia and Montour Counties. He has been privileged to argue multiple cases before the Pennsylvania Supreme Court, Superior Court, Commonwealth Court and the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit.
Mr. Leipold is a 1985 graduate of the University of Toledo College of Law and a 1981 Honors graduate of Bloomsburg State College after attending the Pennsylvania State University Altoona Campus from 1973 to 1975.
