Join communities in Pennsylvania to create smoke-free outdoor spaces!
Smoke Free Outdoor Spaces - communities in Pennsylvania can create smoke-free outdoor spaces to eliminate secondhand smoke exposure and protect children, adults and pets. Free signage for Young Lungs at Play, Puppy Lungs at Play (dog parks) and Smoke-Free Green Spaces (parks outside of playgrounds) is available to participating communities.
Encourage smoke free outdoor spaces to:
- Improve air quality leading to better health outcomes for community residents
- Reduce vape and tobacco product waste and related cleanup costs
- Promote positive role modeling and deter youth from starting to use tobacco products.
Through the PA Department of Health and its partners, communities can create tobacco free outdoor spaces and be provided free signage, including “Young Lungs at Play,” “Smoke Free Green Spaces” and “Puppy Lungs at Play” for playgrounds, green spaces and dog parks.
Municipalities or community organizations: contact your Tobacco Prevention and Control Regional Primary Contractor to participate and receive free signage.
Follow these three steps:
- Implement a 100% tobacco free parks, playground, green space or dog park ordinance, policy or resolution.
- Contact your Tobacco Prevention and Control Regional Primary Contractor to request free signage.
- Inform your staff and community. Publish and promote an announcement in the local media or community newsletter.
Young Lungs at Play
Because their bodies are still growing, infants and young children are especially vulnerable to health risks from secondhand smoke. Tobacco-free playgrounds benefits children, families and the environment.
Puppy Lungs at Play
Smoke-free dog parks protect our furry friends! Also, children, adults and pet owners benefit from the elimination of secondhand smoke and tobacco waste to create cleaner community parks!
Smoke-Free Green Spaces
Green spaces and walking trails provide access to the great outdoors in Pennsylvania for children and the public! Eliminate secondhand smoke exposure, minimize environmental impact and create a vape and smoke free green space!
