Welcome to the Pennsylvania Department of Health Institutional Review Board (IRB). The IRB works to make sure that human subjects are protected in research that involves the Department of Health. By reviewing research applications, the IRB makes sure that research protocols treat human subjects ethically and protect their privacy. If research has been approved by the IRB, the IRB will routinely check the state of the research to determine whether or not the research is in compliance with the approved protocol. The Pennsylvania Department of Health IRB complies with the federal HHS regulations. To learn more about the functions of the IRB read the IRB Policy and Procedures (PDF).
