Work with the Bureau of Fraud Prevention and Prosecution
The Bureau of Fraud Prevention and Prosecution (BFPP) is responsible for conducting investigations into suspected public benefits fraud and abuse as well as performing collection activities for public benefit programs administered by the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services (DHS). BFPP investigations are primarily conducted by Special Agents and their supervisors.

Job Description
Conduct investigations of activities related to fraud, misuse or theft of public assistance monies in an effort to detect, prevent, and deter welfare fraud. Special Agents are often stationed in County Assistance Offices throughout the Commonwealth and work in partnership with caseworkers to identify applicants ineligible for welfare benefts. Special Agents also file criminal complaints and assist the District Attorney’s Office in the presentation of the case in court proceedings and participate in administrative hearings.
Minimum Experience and Training
- One year of investigative experience and a bachelor’s degree; or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training.
Special Requirements
- All positions require possession of an active Pennsylvania non-commercial Class C driver’s license or equivalent.
- All employees must obtain CLEAN/NCIC certification within two months of employment and maintain this certification for the duration of employment in this job.
