Overview
Hazardous materials releases above the reportable quantity must be reported to us, your local emergency planning committee, and the National Response Center.
Initial Report
An immediate report is required. Follow this process:

Call 911
Call 911 to notify your local emergency planning committee and initiate emergency personnel, if needed.

Call the National Response Center
Call them at 800-424-8802.

Call us
Call our watch and warning center at 717-651-2001.
The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection might require a notification. We'll notify them of all spills reported to us.
Info to Include
Include this information in your report:
- Your name, location, organization, and telephone number
- Name and address of the party responsible for the incident; or name of the carrier or vessel, the railcar/truck number, or other identifying information
- Date and time of the incident
- Location of the incident
- Source and cause of the release or spill
- Types of material(s) released or spilled
- Quantity of materials released or spilled
- Medium (e.g. land, water) affected by release or spill
- Danger or threat posed by the release or spill
- Number and types of injuries or fatalities (if any)
- Weather conditions at the incident location
- Whether an evacuation has occurred
- Other agencies notified or about to be notified
- Any other information that may help emergency personnel respond to the incident
Follow-Up Reports
Within 14 Days
Submit follow-up spill reports to us within 14 days of the initial hazardous materials release.
Within 30 Days
Transportation-related hazardous spills and releases require another follow-up report within 30 days of the initial release.
This is regardless of size. Send an updated report to the U.S. Department of Transportation.
