Pittsburgh, PA – PennDOT District 11 is announcing lane restrictions on I-376 (Parkway East) in Churchill Borough, Wilkins Township and the Municipalities of Penn Hills and Monroeville, Allegheny County, will occur Friday night through Sunday morning, June 28-30 weather permitting.
I-376 will be reduced to a single-lane of traffic in each direction between the Monroeville/Business Route 22 (Exit 80) interchange and the bridge over Old William Penn Highway from 9 p.m. Friday night continuously through noon on Sunday. Crews will work to implement a new traffic pattern. Once work concludes Sunday, I-376 will be placed in the following traffic configuration:
- Westbound (inbound) – Motorists will be shifted into the two inner lanes of travel at the start of the work zone. Near the Penn Hills (Exit 81) interchange, westbound traffic will be shifted into the two outer lanes of travel.
- Eastbound (outbound) – Motorists will continue to utilize the two outer lanes of traffic at the start of the work zone. Near the Penn Hills (Exit 81) interchange, eastbound traffic will be shifted into the two inner lanes of travel.
The Penn Hills off-ramps will remain accessible to traffic, and on-ramps from the Penn Hills will be in a stop condition. The new configuration is expected to be in place through early September, while crews conduct structure work on two I-376 bridges over Old William Penn Highway and continue median barrier repairs in the work zone.
This work is part of the $70.1 million I-376 Parkway East Betterment Project. Work will include a superstructure replacement over Old William Penn Highway, two bridge rehabilitations over Old William Penn Highway/Lougeay Road/Sunset Drive and Thompson Run Road/Thompson Run/Union Railroad, and six bridge preservations along the I-376. Throughout the project motorists can expect long-term single-lane restrictions, several weekends with traffic down to a single lane, and a long-term crossover in 2025. The improvements on the 4.5 miles of the Parkway East between the Churchill/Route 130 (Exit 79B) and Monroeville/Route 48 (Exit 84A) exit are anticipated to conclude in the fall 2026. Swank Construction Company, LLC is the prime contractor.
