Route 1060 Bridge Street Edmon/Salina Bridge Replacement Begins Today in Armstrong & Westmoreland Counties

Uniontown, PA – Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) District 12 is announcing that work to replace the Edmon/Salina Bridge, which carries Route 1060 (Bridge Street) over the Kiskiminetas River and Norfolk Southern Railroad between Kiskiminetas Township, Armstrong County and Bell Township, Westmoreland County, is scheduled to begin today, Monday, March 18.

Initial construction is anticipated to have minimal impact on traffic patterns. Intermittent flagging, roadside work, and lane restrictions will be utilized to set signs, begin surveying, and mobilize equipment and trailers. Work will also include erosion and sediment controls, clearing and grubbing, and railroad crossing work. No detour is anticipated for the 2024 construction season.

Crews from Mekis Construction will be replacing the Edmon/Salina Bridge with a three-span continuous composite steel plate girder bridge on a new alignment located immediately downstream from the existing bridge. The approach roadway will be widened to provide 11-foot travel lanes and 5-foot shoulders. Drainage will be upgraded as well as the guiderail, signs, and pavement markings.

Construction of the $33.2 million project is anticipated to continue through late 2026, depending on weather and operations, and the current bridge will remain open throughout the entire project.
