Salina Intersection Reconstruction Begins Next Week in Westmoreland County

Uniontown, PA – Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) District 12 is announcing that a single-lane restriction on Route 1060 (Main Street/Salina Road Extension/Walnut Street/Bridge Street) is scheduled to begin Monday, September 9, between Route 981 (Tintown Road) in Bell Township, Westmoreland County, and High Street/Route 2047 (Edmon Road) in Armstrong County.

Daytime restrictions will be intermittent and directed by flagging, Monday-Friday, 6:00 AM-9:00 PM. Overnight flagging will be in place weekdays only, 9:00 PM-6:00 AM. Construction is anticipated until Friday night, September 13. All work depends on weather and operations.

Crews from Mekis Construction will be removing and replacing the intersection of Route 1060 (Main Street/Walnut Street) and Larimer Road/Point Street. Access to Larimer Road and the Salina Inn will be maintained.

This work is part of the $33.2M infrastructure investment to replace the Edmon/Salina Bridge, which carries Route 1060 (Bridge Street) over the Kiskiminetas River and Norfolk Southern Railroad between Bell Township, Westmoreland County and Kiskiminetas Township, Armstrong County. The new superstructure will be a three-span continuous composite steel plate girder bridge on a new alignment located immediately downstream from the existing bridge.

Construction is anticipated to continue through late 2026 and the current bridge will remain open throughout the entire project. Please see the Salina Bridge Replacement Project page on our website – under Design and Construction Projects section, Westmoreland County tile – for additional information.
