Project Overview
This project is located between Mansfield and Wellsboro on Route 6. It will convert the existing sharply skewed four-leg intersection of Route 6 / Route 660 / Route 4002 into two T-Intersections approximately 800 feet apart. Modification to the intersection will improve safety by increasing intersection sight distance. On the north side of Route 6, a new traffic island on Route 4002 (Charleston Road) will separate the east and westbound traffic creating a perpendicular connection of eastbound Route 4002 to Route 6. On the south side of Route 6, the Route 660 (Elk Run Road) approach will be relocated 800 feet to the east to create a new perpendicular T-intersection on Route 6 and a right turn lane will be added to eastbound Route 6 for traffic turning onto relocated Route 660.
Construction will occur in stages, with traffic being maintained on the existing roadways. Limited detours will be used at various times to maintain traffic around the work area. Traffic will be diverted onto new sections before existing sections are removed. Temporary traffic shifts and nighttime lane closures will be implemented to minimize construction impacts.
The project will be constructed over a period of one construction season with work tentatively scheduled to begin in the spring 2023.
