Project Overview

County: Susquehanna
State Route: 1018
Project Type: Structure Rehabilitation

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) invites the public to a public meeting and online plans display for Route 1018 (Old Route 11) over Norfolk Southern Railroad Project in New Milford Township, Susquehanna County.

Route 1018 (Old Route 11) is a two-lane rural road that carries traffic over the Norfolk Southern Railroad. The bridge is considered a contributing element to the National Register of Historic Places eligible railroad it crosses. New Milford Borough is located approximately 1.0 miles south of the bridge.

The purpose of this project is to provide safe and efficient access over the active Norfolk Southern rail line with a structure that meets current design standards, carries current legal loads, and supports sustainable growth and development. Additionally, this project will address roadway deficiencies, provide guide rail to meet current guidelines, and the intersection with Route 0011.

The project is currently in design and work is expected to occur during the 2026 and 2027 construction season. The existing bridge will remain open during the construction of the new bridge.

The purpose of the public meeting and online plans display is to introduce the project and receive public input regarding any questions or concerns with the project. It is also an opportunity for the public to review and comment on the project's potential effect upon Cultural Resources pursuant to the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation's 36 CFR Part 800 regulations implementing Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act.
