This project is for the improvement of Route 309, Section 355 in Butler Township, Luzerne County.
The location of the project is approximately 1 ¼ miles north from the intersection with Route 3022 at Segments 260/ 261 Offsets 229 to a point approximately one mile south from the intersection with Interstate 80 at Segment 270/ 271 Offsets 59 along Route 309 (North Hunter Highway), with a total work area length of 2,791 feet (0.529 miles).
The project involves the replacement of the existing Route 309 bridge over Nescopeck Creek. The existing bridge is a two-span rolled steel multi-girder bridge built in 1956 and is open to traffic with no weight restrictions. The project will replace the two-span structure with a single-span prestressed concrete structure and will also include reconstructing the approach roadway surface and upgrading existing drainage features. The project will be staged construction maintaining one lane of traffic in each direction throughout the construction period. Other work includes excavation, Pile structure foundation, temporary excavation support & protection, drainage, new guiderail, concrete curbing, E & S control measures, temporary traffic control, temporary fencing, permanent signing, pavement markings, landscaping and other miscellaneous construction work.
The project is anticipated to be completed by Fall of 2024.
