District 5 Projects - Monroe County

US 209 at Shafers Schoolhouse Road

Project Overview

County: Monroe
State Route: 209
Project Type: Intersection
Proposed Start Month: September 2023
Proposed End Month: December 2025
Contract Cost: $7,753,257.04
Prime Contractor: James D. Morrissey, Inc. of Philadelphia, Pa.

The project is for safety improvements and intersection modifications on US 209 at the intersections of Beaver Valley Road and Shafers School House Road.

Shafers Schoolhouse Road access to US 209  is closed. Traffic cannot access US 209 from Shafers Schoolhouse Road nor will traffic on US 209 be able to access Shafers Schoolhouse Road.

The Shafers Schoolhouse Road detour utilizes Business Route 209, Middle Easton Belmont Pike, Manor Drive, Hickory Valley Road, and Shafers Schoolhouse Road.

Once work is complete, the intersection will be in the permanent traffic pattern with right in/right out access at US 209 from Shafers Schoolhouse Road.

Work on the project includes roadway widening, roadway rehabilitation, construction of cul-de-sacs on Beaver Valley Road, pavement removal, median barrier installation, traffic signal removal, drainage upgrades, stormwater management, and other miscellaneous construction.

When the project is complete there will be no access to/from US 209 at Beaver Valley Road, and a right in/right out access at US 209 from Shafers Schoolhouse Road. There will be acceleration lanes for Shafers Schoolhouse Road right turn traffic to gain speed to merge onto US 209, and deceleration lanes for US 209 traffic to reduce speed prior to making right turns onto Shafers Schoolhouse Road.

The attached plan sheet shows the configuration of what US 209 at Shafers Schoolhouse Road will be when the project is complete.
