Project Overview
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announces a public plans display for a project intended to upgrade 13 intersections on US 422 in eastern Berks County. The thirteen intersections are between Pineland Road and River Bridge Road in Amity and Exeter townships.
The purpose of the project a safer, more efficient corridor with remote traffic condition monitoring. The project involves traffic signal upgrades, signal coordination, curb ramp upgrades and signing / pavement marking modifications to intersections at:
1. Pineland Road / Sunset Manor Drive
2. Center Road Westbound
3. Center Road Eastbound
4. Daniel Boone Road
5. Limekiln Road
6. Monocacy Creek / N. Monocacy Creek Road
7. Old Airport Road Westbound
8. Old Airport Road Eastbound
9. Maplewood Drive Westbound
10. Maplewood Drive Eastbound
11. Old Swede Road / State Route 662
12. River Bridge Road Westbound
13. River Bridge Road Eastbound
In addition, there will be more extensive improvements at the following intersections which will involve right of way acquisition:
1. Pineland Road / Sunset Manor Drive
3. Center Road Eastbound
6. Monocacy Creek / N. Monocacy Creek Road
7. Old Airport Road Westbound
8. Old Airport Road Eastbound
Traffic will maintained during construction without detours. The project is anticipated to be constructed in 2026 although all schedules are subject to change. The project is currently being designed and you have the opportunity to review the information and provide comments. The virtual plans display will be available to view online from September 30, 2024, through the end of October. The purpose of the plans display is to introduce the project and receive public input regarding any questions or concerns with the project. It is also an opportunity for the public to review and comment on the project's potential
