DISTRICT 6 PROJECTS

Cheyney Road over Branch of Chester Creek Bridge Replacement

Project Overview

The existing structure, originally built in 1931, consists of a reinforced concrete slab with concrete abutment and carries Cheyney Road (SR 4015) over Branch Chester Creek in Thornbury Township, Delaware County.

The proposed project includes the replacement of the existing structure with a reinforced concrete box culvert.  The proposed replacement culvert will fit within the same approximate footprint as the existing structure; however, it will be widened asymmetrically (to the downstream side) to accommodate two (2) 4-foot shoulders.

To tie the replacement structure into the existing approach roadway, approximately 284 feet of roadway reconstruction is proposed along either approach. Within the limits of work, existing guide railwidth will be removed and replaced in accordance with current standards and crash-worthy end treatments will be installed. Additional work will include updated pavement markings and updated roadway signage.
