Project Overview
County: Montgomery
State Route(s): 3009
Local Name(s): Main Street
Project Type: Safety Improvements
The proposed project is located in West Norriton Township, Montgomery County. The project will implement a 4-lane partial “road diet” configuration along Main Street between Egypt Road and Forest Avenue/West Airy Street. The existing four-lane undivided roadway will maintain two (2) through lanes in the westbound direction, one (1) lane eastbound, and a shared left-turn lane throughout the project limits with dedicated turn lanes at the signalized intersections.
A 5-leg “hybrid roundabout” is proposed at the intersection of Main Street and Egypt Road/Jefferson Avenue/Orchard Lane, and includes a 2-lane exit for Main Street and a single-lane exit for Egypt Road.
The proposed improvements include a mill and overlay of the existing pavement and re-striping for the proposed partial road diet lane configurations along approximately 5,300 feet of roadway.
Temporary and permanent right-of-way acquisitions will be required in the area of the “hybrid roundabout”.
The existing traffic signals at Schuylkill Avenue, Whitehall Road, and Forrest Avenue/West Airy Street will be modified, as necessary.
The ADA and pedestrian facilities along the corridor will be evaluated and updated, as necessary, to meet current ADA standards.
