The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) held an open house and virtual plans display on Wednesday, February 1, for the U.S. 1 (Roosevelt Boulevard) Crossover Lanes Project in Philadelphia.
The purpose of the public open house was to introduce the project and receive public input regarding any questions or concerns with the project. It is also an opportunity for the public to review and comment on the project’s potential effect upon Cultural Resources pursuant to the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation’s 36 CFR Part 800 regulations implementing Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act.
The purpose of the project is to construct strategic crossover and intersection improvements to increase the safety and efficiency of the U.S. 1 (Roosevelt Boulevard) corridor. The proposed improvements are based upon recommendations made in the Roosevelt Boulevard Route for Change report completed on May 14, 2021 and prepared independently of this project. Five locations have been identified as a high priority for improvements and are the subject areas of this report. These locations include facilities adjacent to the intersections of U.S. 1 (Roosevelt Boulevard) and Revere/Faunce Street (Location 1), Strahle Street (Location 2), Winchester Avenue (Location 3), Michener Street (Location 4), and Fulmer Street (Location 5).
The scope of work for this project consists of crossover improvements and relocations, realigning crosswalks, reconstructing ADA ramps, improved pedestrian access to public transit, and traffic signal upgrades within the identified locations.
