Project Overview
County: Chester
State Route: U.S. 322
Local Name: West Chester Bypass
Project Type: Slope Restoration
This project will restore the existing eroded roadway embankment on the northern side of U.S. 322 (West Chester Bypass), which runs parallel to a tributary to Taylor Run. Approximately 50’ of shoulder and 115’ of roadway embankment which has eroded will be restored.
The proposed roadway reconstruction, retaining wall construction, and guide rail replacement will restore West Chester Bypass and mitigate the potential for future embankment erosion. The scope of work includes:
- Construction of an approximately 150-foot retaining wall along the base of the failed slope to stabilize the embankment and support the roadway
- Reconstruction of the deteriorated roadway shoulder
- Milling and overlay of the existing roadway pavement
- Guide rail replacement and grading of roadway embankments
During construction, there will be temporary lane closures to facilitate construction.
Construction is anticipated to begin in the early spring of 2024 and be completed by the end of 2024.
