    The SR 4008, Section 034 bridge deck replacement project is located along SR 4008 (Elizabethtown Road) over Brubaker Run in Rapho Township, Lancaster County. The purpose of this project is to replace the existing, deteriorating bridge deck, repair the existing substructure, and provide continued safe and efficient access on SR 4008 over Brubaker Run.

    The existing structure was built in 1960 and is a single-span composite adjacent box beam bridge supported on full-height concrete abutments at a 60-degree skew. The bridge length is approximately 39’-8 ¾”, measured center-center of bearings.

    The existing composite adjacent box beam superstructure will remain, and the project will feature a proposed lightweight concrete bridge deck and PA Type 10M bridge barrier supported by the existing full-height concrete abutments. Substructure work includes repairs to the existing concrete abutments and tops of wingwalls. Additional work includes placing rock scour protection at the abutments, reconstructing the pavement along the roadway tie-ins, and installing MASH-compliant guide rail. The pavement beyond the full-depth reconstruction limits will be milled and overlaid. The proposed bridge width will match the existing width, which features two (2) 11’-0” lanes and 4’-0” shoulders.

    This section of Elizabethtown Road has an average daily traffic volume of 2,143 vpd.

    The bridge will be closed for approximately 6 months to all traffic during construction. The proposed 3.3-mile detour will utilize T-341 (North Chiques Road) and T-374 (Colebrook Road). Please refer to the project’s Detour Plan graphic. Access to all driveways within the project limits will be maintained during construction. Overhead utilities are present at the site and utility relocations are currently not anticipated.

    The project is currently in design, and construction work is anticipated to begin in Fall 2026 and last approximately 6 months.

    The purpose of the plans display is to introduce the project and solicit public input, questions, or concerns regarding the project.​
