Harrisburg, PA — Pennsylvania collected $4.2 billion in General Fund revenue in September, which was $33.7 million, or 0.8 percent, less than anticipated, Revenue Secretary Pat Browne reported today. Fiscal year-to-date General Fund collections total $10.1 billion, which is $20.2 million, or 0.2 percent, above estimate. This amount is within the range (2 percent) the Department of Revenue strives for with its year-to-date revenue forecasts.
Sales tax receipts totaled $1.2 billion for September, $15.9 million below estimate. Year-to-date sales tax collections total $3.7 billion, which is $10.3 million, or 0.3 percent, less than anticipated.
Personal income tax (PIT) revenue in September was $1.6 billion, $34.7 million below estimate. This brings year-to-date PIT collections to $3.9 billion, which is $55.0 million, or 1.4 percent, below estimate.
September corporation tax revenue of $993.2 million was $31.1 million above estimate. Year-to-date corporation tax collections total $1.3 billion, which is $20.1 million, or 1.5 percent, above estimate.
Inheritance tax revenue for the month was $125.4 million, $12.7 million below estimate, bringing the year-to-date total to $439.0 million, which is $32.0 million, or 7.9 percent, above estimate.
Realty transfer tax revenue was $53.1 million for September, $0.9 million above estimate, bringing the fiscal-year total to $116.0 million, which is $4.1 million, or 3.7 percent, more than anticipated.
Other General Fund tax revenue, including cigarette, malt beverage, liquor and gaming taxes, totaled $137.2 million for the month, $2.5 million below estimate. This brings the year-to-date total to $380.5 million, which is $2.9 million, or 0.8 percent, above estimate.
Non-tax revenue totaled $75.3 million for the month, $0.1 million above estimate, bringing the year-to-date total to $256.3 million, which is $26.3 million, or 11.4 percent, above estimate.
In addition to the General Fund collections, the Motor License Fund received $240.4 million for the month, $4.6 million below estimate. Fiscal year-to-date collections for the fund — which include the commonly known gas and diesel taxes, as well as other license, fine and fee revenues — total $800.3 million, which is $43.0 million, or 5.7 percent, above estimate.
