The Department of State's role in legislative redistricting is to advertise the information from the preliminary and final reapportionment plans (maps and text descriptions of the new districts) in newspapers throughout the commonwealth and educate candidates and voters via the Department's website and social media platforms. The Department also assists county election offices as they assign voters to their correct legislative districts in the Statewide Uniform Registry of Electors (SURE), based on the new maps.
